Summer Specialty Skating Clinics 2009

Wissahickon Figure Skating Fund in conjunction with Wissahickon Skating Club sponsored specialty clinics during the 2009 summer sessions. The theme each week covered one of the following topics of figure skating: Harness, Ice Dance, New Moves-in the-Field, Spins, Choreography. The Fund sponsored the series by underwriting the cost of the classes. All sessions ran 4:45-5:45pm Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Bobbe Shire Spin Clinic 2009

Wissahickon Skating Club and the Wissahickon Figure Skating Fund were very excited and proud to sponsor Bobbe Shire, who is famous around the world for her successful spin coaching of amateur and professional figure skaters, at Wissahickon Skating Club for a 1 day to work with skaters in a clinic format to help them learn and apply her successful spin methods.

Bobbe was formerly a coach at Wissahickon Skating Club for 11 years before moving on to coach World and Olympic skaters such as Michael Weiss, Emily and Sarah Hughes, Patrick Chen and Sasha Cohen. During Bobbe's time at Wissahickon, she co-coached students together with Kris Shakarjian. On August 27th, Bobbe and Kris worked together again both on and off the ice delivering a seminar to skaters of any age interested in improving their spinning techniques. The seminar also included off-ice warmup and conditioning.
