WFSF honors Mr. Edmonds as he turns 90! May 1, 1918
Wissahickon's first professional, Albert Edmonds, began skating in London in 1943, joining Queen's Ice Club a year later. With his partner, Pauline Borrajo, he won the British Dance Championship in 1947 and 1948. Edmonds was runner-up in the British Junior Men's Competition in 1947 and the British Junior pairs in 1948. He is a British Gold Medallist and was a member of the 1948 World and Olympic teams where he demonstrated ice dancing at the St. Moritz Olympics.
Mr. Edmonds moved to Canada in June 1948 and started his teaching career in Vancouver, B.C. The following year he became senior Pro at Winnipeg Winter Club, Manitoba and stayed until 1956 when he made the move to Philadelphia and the Wissahickon Skating Club. Mr. Edmonds (or '"Uncle Albert" as he fondly became known at WSC) has two daughters, Jenny and Susan, who also skated and coached at Wissahickon. He now resides in Florida, to be closer to his grandchildren. He remains incredibly active, traveling around the world, playing tennis and taking Flamenco dancing lessons!
WFSF would like to thank Mr. Edmonds for his support of the WFSF and to thank his many admirers who have generously donated $1,100 in his honor to the WFSF.
Thank you.
